What is Robotic Process Automation?

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is a software technology, which enables anyone to configure computer software to interact with digital systems or automate tasks.

What is an RPA Bot?

An RPA bot can work exactly like any human resource, with digital systems, applications, or executing business processes, with the exception being that it can work around the clock. They are better, faster, reliable, and precise.

An RPA bot can perform a variety of tasks from simply extracting data to something as complex as connecting APIs. Though it sounds like an engineer’s job, an RPA bot is pretty easy to set up, more like hitting ‘play’ and ‘pause’ while recording a video. You just have to program it once, and it can do tons of other tasks for you because they can quickly adapt to changing business processes and organizational structure.

Why Should Businesses Implement RPA?

Now that we are pretty much past the stage of the ‘robots vs. human’ argument, it’s about time businesses adapt to changing landscapes from operations, processing, and even routine tasks, such as data collection or analysis.
RPA seems to be the ‘fit for all solution here. From Consumer Goods manufacturers to top-notch financial institutions and airlines, we see RPA being implemented in one way or another.

Not only are these companies benefiting from RPA implementation, in fact, according to many CIOS or CTOS, but the list of tasks to be automated is also increasing by the second. So what started as an experiment may be a full-time dependency for the likes of Walmart, Deutsche Bank, AT&T, Vanguard, Ernst & Young, etc.

How to ensure effective Robotic Process Automation?

Though RPA is an effective tool to operate and execute business processes, it can’t happen without sufficient human involvement especially in the beginning. Ideally, RPAs are programmed to mimic human interactions, within organizations, which can only happen, if such interactions are already semi-structured or structured.
